About This Item
New York: J. P. Kennedy and Sons, 1955. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. Signed by Author(s). This is a First Edition. This copy is Very Good in a Fair dust jacket. The dust jacket has moderate chipping, and some tape jacket, but is complete. This copy is unique in the it is SIGNED BY ABBE PIERRE GROUES who the book is about. This is a very scarce signature. Abb Pierre, OFM Cap, GOQ (born Henri Marie Joseph Grous;[1] 5 August 1912 - 22 January 2007) was a French Catholic priest, member of the Resistance during World War II, and deputy of the Popular Republican Movement (MRP). In 1949, he founded the Emmaus movement, with the goal of helping poor and homeless people and refugees. Abb is a French word coming from the aramean word aba as in a spiritual father elected by monks, and is also used as a courtesy title given to Catholic priests in French-speaking countries. He was one of the most popular figures in France, but had his name removed from such polls after some time.
