About This Item

Cambridge University Press, London, 1969. Second Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: maps. XIV, 313, [3] pages in original navy blue cloth covered boards, with a dustjacket which has been clipped at the top and bottom of the front fold over. The spine section of the dustjacket has faded and has a couple of moisture spots. The top edge of the text block is tinted pale mauve, and both it and the front edge show traces of spotting. Previous owner's details are the only marking of the book, and they are on the front end page. The book looks at the bishops, who were more than merely landlords, and also deals with their feudal as well as agricultural tenants, and with the exercise by the bishops of "public" powers. In this sense, the book tries to give a complete picture of the secular influence of the bishops, which was 1 of the dominating influences in the society eastern England. – Paraphrasing the front fold over blurb Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
