About This Item
1677 HERALDRY & Genealogy French Menestrier Coats Arms Armorial Illustrated RARE
Claude-François Ménestrier was a 17th-century French Jesuit philosopher known for his wide variety of written works. During his lifetime, he was the most widely known heraldist, much in part to his book 'Methods of Heraldic Principles'. He taught lectures on the science of heraldry and how it influenced noble coats of arms, the origins of coats of arms, and the meanings of the ornamentation on the designs. This book includes dozens of illustrations of French coats of arms and heraldic banners.
