ont> Grabhorn/Hoyem : San Francisco, 1967 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. A scarce copy of this limited edition of Chaucer's 'A. B. C. ' poem, written for Blanche of Lancaster. A scarce work. A limited edition work, being one of one-thousand copies printed in 1967. The work of Chaucer's 'A. B. C. ' appears to be his translation of a French allegorical poem called 'Le Pelerinage de la vie Humaine'. The poem is set out with each stanza starting with a letter of the medieval Latin alphabet. The poem is said to have been written for Blanche of Lancaster, which would mean this is one of Chaucer's earliest poems. Blanche was a member of the royal House of Plantagenet, and was the mother of King Henry IV. Chaucer has been widely regarded as the greatest poet of the Middle Ages, best known for his 'The Canterbury Tales'. Condition: In a quarter morocco binding with paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Very minor marks to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Overall Condition: Fine.
