About This Item
Houghton Mifflin, 1928. Limited Edition.. Leather Bound. Very Good/No Jacket. L 4to 9.75 - 12'' tall. Leather Bound. Condition: Very Good. Jacket Condition: No Jacket. Houghton Mifflin, 1928. Limited Edition. Ex-Library, Usual Markings. 607+741 pages. Volumes 1 + 2 complete. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Stated: 'The First Impression of this Two-Volume Edition is Limited to 500 copies uncut'. Bottom and side page ends are rough and uncut. Top page ends are unopened. At one time many books were issued unopened, and it is not uncommon to find older books still in this pristine state. A rare book that is unopened may be considerably more valuable than that same book opened. Therefore, one should consider carefully before opening a book. Of course, you cannot read a book that is unopened, at least not in its entirety. At one time, Gentlemen carried a paperknife to open books. Illustrated with 18 plates, primarily portraits, including frontispiece photogravure portraits of Lincoln and Douglas. Leather spines, grey-green paper covered boards, gold lettering on darker leather spine labels. Bindings firm. Ex private school library. Moderate general wear. Letter spine labels chipped, so lettering incomplete. Light foxing spots on pages next to photoplates. Size: L 4to 9.75 - 12'' tall.
