London, Sidgwick & Jackson, 1918 1st edition. Signed.. Paperback, 7 x 4.5 inches. Red paper covers with black lettering, paper title label to spine. In later fine polished red morocco leather slipcase and protective cloth insert. In very good condition with very good slipcase (case; some minor dark spots). Paper cover a little rubbed on spine and edges. Moderate foxing to endpapers. Author’s inscriptions to halftitle “To Nancy Staples 12.10.18.” and later “Now belongs to Sir Henry Newton, Kinsmen you shall behold, On stage, in mimmie action, moved, A main character (p.5) John Drinkwater October 1927.” Owners bookplate opposite “(Sir Harry) Newton.” Mild foxing to pages else a very good clean and tight copy. 72pp. The play was first produced at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in 1918. The play ends with Lincoln’s assassination and includes a cast list for the original production.
