Boston (Updike's Merrymount Press), 1918. 119 pp. with a photograph of the eponymous Jane as a portrait by Rembrandt. Black cloth spine with gilt titles, marbled boards and uncut edges. A little foxing on broad margins. Signed on the half-title, "Mrs Brand from Edward S. Martin, May 7. 1922". Mrs Brand is Phyllis, the daughter of Chiswell Dabney Langhorne and the sister of Nancy Astor who married Mr. (later Lord or Baron) Brand when he was a diplomat in Washington (1918-1919). Brand was one of Lord Milner's "Kindergarten" of Oxford graduates who had served in South Africa and became part of the Clivedon Set. Martin was one of the founders of the Harvard Lampoon and the first Literary Editor of Life Magazine surviving to write the magazine's own obituary.. Signed by Author(s). 2nd Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Book.
