At this time the origin of the fever nor how the disease was transmitted was known. This work traces the development of the epidemic, looking into the causes, casualties, and the treatment provided.By the founding father Benjamin Rush. During the epidemic Rush treated patients with bleeding, calomel, and other early treatments that were typically ineffective and tended to hurt the patients more. The ideas on treatment expressed in this work differed much from the more experienced French doctors who dealt with outbreaks in the West Indies every year. Rush had been a doctor's apprentice during the 1762 epidemic of yellow fever in Philadelphia. Otherwise Rush is known for signing the Declaration of Independence.Bound without the half-title.
