This early printing of this very important work, first published in 1757, is the stated fourth edition, "with improvements," in two volumes The set has been recased in very a basic binding of blue cloth with gilt lettering with bright gilt and crisp lettering and adornment on the spine Oddly, the table of contents of the first volume has been misplaced at the back of the book, before the last page of the volume and the contents pages are out of orderThe books show very little external wear, concentrated at the extremities and while the bindings are sound, both front hinges are crackedEach volume contains intact folding frontispiece maps--North America in the first volume, South America in volume II The text is clear but the pages show slight age toning throughout
