FIRST EDITION, SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR ON HALF-TITLE,1784. Slim 8vo, approximately 215 x 125 mm, 8½ x 5 inches, engraved portrait frontispiece of Lunardi, 2 folding engraved plates, pages: (4), 1-66 plus 1 page of explanation of the plates, adverts on verso, contemporary half calf, gilt lettered label to spine, gilt decoration to spine, marbled boards. Binding slightly rubbed, boards slightly faded at top edges, offset to plates and first page, neat old ink name at top of title page, his bookplate on first pastedown, another of Lord Stanely of Alderley on first free endpaper and a blind stamp, small neat repair to 1 top margin, not near text, endpapers slightly spotted, otherwise a very good copy. Three editions were published in the year 1784; See Library Hub Discover, Cambridge University. This copy is Variant 2: catchword on page 48: "I have" and final line of text on page 48 "the subject of my ascension". (The Second Edition has "Second Edition" printed on the title page).
