Very good. No inscriptions. Minor browning / imprinting of print from fold-out map. Generally clean and tight. 310pp + 10pp index. Engraved portrait frontispiece, fold-out map and 9 further plates, some hand coloured (collated & present). The first edition (a further edition was printed later the same year). Attractively bound. The Rev Yate spent seven years in New Zealand before returning to NSW and being dismissed from the mission for misconduct. This work provides an account of the geography, flora and fauna, the social structure of the Maoris, and a history of the mission.
