Written by noted English botanist and physician William Withering. Presenting the first edition of this very scarce treatise on scarlet fever, or scarlatina anginosa, and sore throat, particularly its prominence in Birmingham during the year 1778. This treatise includes an account of the disease as it raged in Birmingham in 1778. It also includes an historical account of the disease and a general description of scarlet fever including various symptoms, duration of the disease, suggested treatment, and a few specific case studies.Written by William Withering (1741-1799) an eighteenth-century English botanist, physician, and chemist.A fascinating account of scarlet fever, medical diagnosis, and medical treatment in the eighteenth-century. A scarce work in any edition, and very scarce in the first edition.Previous owner's ink signature to the title page, 'M. Hanson'. Rebound in paper wraps. Externally, general shelf wear and a few spots and marks to the wraps. Some chipping to the extremities. Previous owner's ink signature to the title page. Internally, firmly bound. A few instances of light spotting and a bit of age-toning to the pages, which are otherwise clean, especially considering the age of the work. Good
