Edinburgh: Constable, et al., 1812. First edition (xiii, 432, 20 pp.; 152, 77 pp.). Tall 8vo in half leather and marbled paper, gilt to title label, speckled edges. Two volumes bound as one with fold-outs (two farm plans; plan of farmhouse and offices; plan of Stratton estate, Co. Oxford, 1809; plan of Stratton estate with improvements, 1810) and full-page illustrations (plan of cattle shed, plan of cattle enclosures with plantings, iron corn stand, corn stack, Scotch plough (1), Scotch plough (2), barley dresser, plough and barley dresser, stram apparatus), several illustrations in text, contemporary news-clipping tipped in describing 24 lb. turnip. Sir John Sinclair, Bart., compiled this report of best practices for the Board of Agriculture, of which he was then president, with a view of explaining how far those systems [of improvement] are applicable to the less cultivated parts in England, and Scotland. With the bookplate and signature on the title page of Alexander Campbell (who has added a variety of pencilled notes and which have been left as part of the history of the book), bound in Oban (Scotland) by James Miller. General wear to the edges and surfaces, hinges starting but holding; tight, clean text. An attractive copy of this scarce book, well-used but carefully kept. Fold-outs, illustrations
