Aconitum (Aconites) is a genus of over 250 species of flowering plants belonging to the family Ranunculaceae; these herbaceous perennial plants are chiefly native to the mountainous parts of the northern hemisphere. Most species in this genus are extremely poisonious; this has resulted in some unusual common names such as monkshood, wolf's bane, leopard's bane, mousebane, women's bane, devil's helmet, Queen of all Poisons, or blue rocket (modified after Wiki). The second monograph, by D. Prain, is a biography of Francis Buchanan, who was an East India Company surgeon, surveyor and botanist. Dr. Francis Buchanan, later Hamilton or Hamilton-Buchanan, published works on the geography, flora and fauna of India, where he lived and explored from the end of the 18th century until 1815 (after Wiki).
