About This Item
New Orleans: Hood Orphan Memorial Fund, G.T. Beauregard, 1880. First. Hardcover. Overall VG for a book that most oftensuffers from weak spine cloth (most copies have a replaced spine) and its gray/brown cloth is easily soiled. Chip out of upper spine. See pictures./None.. Hood died before his manuscript was published. Hood and his wife left many orphaned children so General Beauregard oversaw the publication of this book so that money would be available to care for the children.
The narrative is largely a rebuttal to General Joe Johnston's scathing comments about Hood in Johnston's autobiography. There are many unanswered questions about Hood's generalship left unanswered. But this book is a "must have" for any credible collection.
TCS 238; SP. ITC 93. Nevins II-65. Howes H-622.
