New York: Desmond FitzGerald, [1912]. First American Edition. 12mo (19cm.); publisher's dark orange gilt-lettered cloth; [6],378pp.; two-toned frontispiece. Cloth a bit scuffed, especially at spine ends, spine cloth quite darkened, some white soiling to upper cover, small bookseller ticket to rear pastedown, light foxing to preliminaries, else Very Good, internally near fine. Best-selling German novelist's first appearance in English, though it appears his popularity in Germany did not cross over to this continent.
