Copy number 194 of 275 copies, signed on the colophon by Glaser and Keller. 180 pp. ; 7.5" x 11"; printed entirely by letterpress, the text composed in Linotype Granjon and handset Garamond types. The drawings are printed in three colors from photopolymer plates made from the artist's originals. Bound in mustard cloth of Dutch fabric over archival boards designed by the Press and executed at Cardoza James Binding Company. In slipcase covered in printed paper over archical boards. Prospectus, including publication announcement letter regarding "a tantalizing mystery" surrounding the book involving MFK Fisher's professed involvement in the writing of the book, to which Lawrence Clark Powell responded: "If Idwal Jones is a professional Welshman, MFK Fisher is a Celtic fabulist . . ." "Idwal Jones was a master storyteller in the finest Welsh tradition. He was also a chef. When he wrote about food, it became the stuff of magic." This is his story of young Jean-Marie who buys a ripe medlar from a street vendor at the Toulon wharf in Provence, and is launched by the succulent fruit on an odyssey through some of the most fabled kitchens in France. .
