London: Harris and Son 1823. (16mo) 191pp. Very good. Frontispiece, illus. - alas but 22 of 24 copperplate engravings. Tenderness to joints and wear to head & tail. Hinges tender. Some age staining within, not too deleterious. A contemporary inscription at the end of the Preface pertaining to authorship in a fine, neat hand. Osborne, p.229, cites only a 3rd edition with frontispiece dated 1828. A good example of very early binder's cloth, first used in England by Wm. Pickering in 1820-'21..

Ownership name and date of 1867. A very faint dampstain at the lower corner, short separation at bottom of upper hinge, else a near fine copy. The story of Congo, a slave, based on fact, whose travels took him to the British Isle. First published in 1823 anonymously. See Osborne, p. 229, for the third British edition. Rare.
