New York: The John Day Company, 1948. Special Edition Stated . Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Cyrus LeRoy Baldridge. Reverse of title page states, " This Special Edition was planned by Richard Ellis and Cyrus LeRoy Baldridge; Manufactured by Kingsport Press Inc., Kingsport, Tennessee; United States of America. Boards are covered in red cloth. Front is blind stamped ' The Adventures of Marco Polo '. Spine has black label with gilt print. Top page edges are dyed red. Bottom edge of spine is faded. DJ shows picture of travelers on camel and horseback traversing a mountain pass. Small 3/8" tear on front cover under 'o' in Marco and corners are bumped and scuffed. Back is yellowed and provides pictures and biographical information of both Walsh and Baldridge. Back corners have small pieces missing. The book( 194 pp & index) features full-color paintings and the many drawings of Baldridge. Drawings and chapter headings are in red. The typographic arrangement and format were planned by Richard Ellis. Together he and Baldridge have worked in sympathetic collaboration to produce a colorful and distinguished volume. The book carries an introduction by Pearl S. Buck as well as a Foreword by the editor, Richard J. Walsh. Bookseller's Inventory # 050061
