Charles Lanman's "Adventures in the Wilds of the United States" is a brilliant, mid-19th-century account of his travels across America. It is one of the best travelogues to describe the middle part of America, from Florida to the Mississippi River into southern Canada. Lanman condensed several his earlier works into this first American edition – notes on angling in Canada, hunting in Quebec, and discovery of the source of the Potomac River.
It should be noted that this first American edition includes material not included in the first British edition and features 12 full-page engravings.
