About This Item
St. Augustine, FL, 1880. Very good condition. Advertisment flyer for Florida plants and ferns, by Mary C. Reynolds. In the flyer dated June 5th 1880, Mary Reynolds writes that she is traveling to the north for a summer vacation and therefore will sell her botanical specimens at "unusually low prices". One of the plants listed, Baptisia Calycosa, Canby, is a rare member of the bean family, found in only 2 Florida counties, collected by Reynolds herself near St. Augustine, and not seen in the wild since 1940. Reynolds also collected plants which were included in the North American Herbarium at the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences.
Reynolds goes on to note in the flyer that her ferns are "fine botanical specimens; Pteris aquilina, is represented by sections of the giant fronds of that species collected by F. W. White on the Indian River and reported by Mr. Davenport in the Botanical Gazette".
Two lists of plants, the second list titled 'Florida Filices'. Folded, 5 1/2 x 7", printed on three sides.
