Africa in Chaos is an excellent book that chronicles the history of post colonial leaders whose interest was in themselves and their wealth but no interests in the education and health of the citizens. George Ayittley blames the corrupt leaders who subcumbed to the chance to enrich themselves and ignored their countries needs. He does point out some that tried to do the right thing but eventually failed or were ousted by the military. He points out that western countries were not helpful in advancing democracy. The US, France and Britain were more supportive of the military and corrupt leaders because they wanted to maintain influence in each country . They all supported and feed money to the worst leaders without making them accountable. They ignored the suffering of the masses and enabled the corrupt leaders to become more corrupt and evil. This is not continuing to blame the west for all of Africa's problems. The blame is placed on all the responsible parties including the Africans. A fascinating book with great detail but also very readable. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY AUTHOR.
