Esordisce alla fine degli Anni Cinquanta praticando la pittura informale e la poesia visiva. Negli anni 1959-1960 collabora con Enrico Castellani e Piero Manzoni alle attività della Galleria Azimut, aperta a Milano, e della collegata rivista Azimut. La sua prima personale "Principia" si tiene al Palazzo dei Diamanti di Ferrara nel 1967. All'attività artistica affianca una intensa attività di saggista e scrittore di libri d'artista, tra i principali: Obsoleto (1968), con la copertina di Enrico Castellani; Ciclostile 1 (1970); Tesi (1972); Progetto per un Amleto politico (1973); Machiavelli 30 (1978).
