The letter was found among the personal belongings of a young Royal Air Force pilot, to be mailed to his mother in the event of his death. After he was reported missing and believed dead, she agreed to have the letter published anonymously. It is matter of fact, yet uplifting, and demonstrates the patriotism to which ordinary men can rise when called upon to defend their country..
