Cairo, Egypt:: Islam Aly,, 2020.. Edition of 30 varianst + 5 AP. Closed: 3.5 x 3.5 x 2.75". Materials: Legal ledger paper from the late 1800s and 1900s, museum board, hand-printed Arabic letters from magnesium plates, laser-engraved wooden boards, book cloth, stiff-leaf binding with leather wrappings connected to laser engraved camel bone pieces. Signed, numbered, and dated by the artist Islam Aly: "Statera" explores the rhombic dot system behind the Thuluth script. An Arabic, elegant, cursive writing that is used on architectural monuments and manuscripts. In Arabic, this system is called "Mizan Al Horof" (balance of letters). "Statera" shows each letter's specific structure, which is built of a significant rule: the number of dots. The 28 letters are printed in Thuluth script with vibrant red color, over regular handwritten text by ordinary people. Different styles, signatures, seals, notes, and markings from legal ledger paper contrast with the Thuluth script…

Jessica Spring: "'A Sublime Love Story' weaves together a 19th century poem of seduction by Percy Bysshe Shelley, with current research on bisphenol contamination in our environment, food, water and bodies. Used to manufacture plastics and resins for food and drink packaging, bisphenol A (BPA) impacts the endocrine system, impairing development and reproductive health of animals and humans. BPA analogues, including BPE and BPS, are similar reproductive toxicants with transgenerational effects. 19th century writers didn't know synthetic plastic would emerge in 1907 to change the world. Drum leaf binding. Bound in illustrated boards with cloth spine. Signed and numbered by the artist. Fred Hagstrom: "'Pipeline' documents the ongoing protests against the construction of the Enbridge Line 3 oil pipeline that will take tar sands oil from Canada to Superior Wisconsin. It is actually a new line along a new route, leaving the old pipeline in the ground. The line crosses land that is held by tribes without honoring treaty rights. It is seen as a threat to the sources of water in northern Minnesota, including the Mississippi and numerous wetlands and streams in the Lake Superior watershed. Tribes are also concerned about the effects of possible spills on wild rice beds. The oil from this line will greatly add to emissions."

Sean Caulfield: "'Watercircle' was produced through a collaborative process between Sean Caulfield (visual artist), Case Caulfield (writer), and Sue Colberg (book designer). To initiate the work, Sean Caulfield drew thematic inspiration from the North Saskatchewan River, which is a major feature in the landscape of Treaty 6 Territory and is the historical and contemporary heart of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In reflecting on the landscape shaped by the river, Sean Caulfield created a large-format linocut that explored themes of ecological change and regeneration of the landscape and the individuals who inhabit it. Description:
This book is in very good condition. There is minor wear on the dust cover and little to no wear at all on the front, back, spine and edges of the cover boards. The pages are white, crisp and free of any markings. "Perhaps because it seems so close in time to our own experience, many art lovers feel a special kinship with the turn of the century. We speak of fin-de siecle artists almost as if we know them, and a large body of scholarly work exists covering nearly every conceivable aspect of the late nineteenth-century philosophy, sociology, and art. Given that, it is a rare and remarkable opportunity when one finds something new and unknown about the late 1800's, a privilege we at the Smithsonian Institute Traveling Exhibition Service are pleased to share with everyone who reads this book and visits the exhibition Art Nouveau Bing...." - Foreword from Art Nouveau Bing: Paris Style 1900

New Haven and New York: Yale University Press and the Jewish Museum, 2004. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover in Dust Jacket. Fine/Fine. Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) is one of the greatest - and most misunderstood - artists of the twentieth century. His incisive portraits, erotically charged nudes, beautiful drawings, and primitivistic sculpture have been admired for decades. Modigliani's work, however, has typically been examined in the limited context of his so-called bohemian, anti-intellectual lifestyle. This groundbreaking book revises this approach toward Modigliani's art, presenting a convincing revisionist examination of the unique historical, social, religious, and cultural significance of his oeuvre. No Flaws or Blemishes but minimal shelf handling; Still Gift Quality. Dust Jacket with price is in a new clear protective Mylar sleeve..
