About This Item

St. Petersburg: Chromolithography S. Dobrodeew., 1892. Cloth. Very Good. Oblong, 24.5 by 35 cm. Chromolithographic cover, with title in Russian, title page in English within, followed by 15 mounted chromolithgraphic of Russian life, mostly rural but not entirely. Leaves are all of heavy card. Scenes include the Feast of Saint Wladirmir, a troika on the Neva (an example of a cityscape scene), the eve of Easter, an interior scene depicting the death of a grandmother with the family gathered around, a walk in the park, etc. etc. A few scenes are of far flung locations, such as one of a falcon hunt or one of a skirmish -- these appear to be of Central Asia. Inscription note pasted to FEP, from U.S. Consulate General at the time, a J. M. Crawford, to Dr. Thomas DeWitt Talmage, a famous cleric of the day. Scarce, with only known institutional copy at Yale -- based on OCLC First Search. Condition: moderate wear to cover, and minor rubbing or abrading of the edges. Imagery is all clean and bright.
