An outstanding photo album and scrapbook of the celebrated 19th-century French stage actor Clément-Just, with striking vintage albumen and salted paper print photographs of the actor in costume, all signed by Clément-Just and many captioned with the name of the play and the theater where it was performed, presumably assembled by the actor himself. Clément-Just specialized in historical costume dramas, plays with titles such as Mazarin, Henri II, La Prise de Pékin, La Chouanne, Jeanne D'Arc and Monte Cristo, and the photographs are noteworthy for their elaborate display of costume. Clément-Just is nearly unrecognizable from photograph to photograph as he undergoes extreme changes in costume, make-up and hair style. Laid-in to the album is a collection of contemporary French theater newspaper clippings concerning Clemént-Just's career, including an 1875 issue of Paris-Theatre which is adorned on its front page with a cliché print of the actor.
