Original cream color covered boards with gilt lettering and decoration to upper cover and gilt lettering to spine; spine strip is heavily toned obscuring the title. There is tone on all edges, front and back boards, albeit less than the spine. The gilt is worn on the "Alice" figure front board decoration. TEG, dulled. Text block is rough cut, page 107 heavily chipped but not effecting the illustrated boarder. Tone or foxing throughout. Peter Newell work is known for its "infectious humor" is unique from John Tenniel classic work. "Newell's drawing are a real departure from the original.
