Second Edition of this comprehensive treatise on geomancy.Illustrated with numerous diagrams, schematic woodcuts and tables in text, as well as 10 plates, 1 of which is an engraved single-page plate, while the other 9 are fold-out woodcut diagrams or letterpress tables, some bound to face each other; plus large engraved printer's device with an armillary sphere on title-page; a few decorative woodcut head-pieces and initials. The Opus Geomantiae Completum "is divided into three parts devoted respectively to the theory, practice and questions taken from previous authors. The theory is largely astrological. Instead of jotting down four rows of dots at random, a wheel with sixteen projections is spun or whirled in order to obtain one of the sixteen geomantic figures. Description:
It was 1972, time of the cult-occult-commune explosion. By day, the Source Family dressed in colorful robes and served organic cuisine to John Lennon, Julie Chistie, Frank Zappa, and many other celebrities at the famed Source restaurant. By night, in their mansion in the Hollywood Hills, they explored the cosmos with their spiritual leader, Father Yod. Yod was an outlandish figure who had 14 wives, drove a Rolls-Royce, and fronted his own psychedelic rock band, Ya Ho Wa 13, now considered one of the most singular psychedelic bands of all time. He surprised many by suddenly morphing from health food restaurateur into mystical leader of what many considered a cult: a group of young people who lived strictly devoted to his esoteric teachings, unusual sexual practices, and philosophies of natural living and dying. Still, as controversial as he was to outsiders, Father Yod was, by inside accounts, a deeply loving and spiritually powerful magus who taught his Family to recognize their divinity within and…

NY: Pageant Press, Inc., 1959. Second Edition. Hard cover in original cloth and dust jacket. Published NY: Pageant Press, Inc., 1959. Thick 8vo., ix+799pp., illustrated with drawings, tables, fold-out plate. Black cloth with gilt titles. Minor rub points to the tips, few small spots on edge of page block, otherwise near fine, clean, crisp, tight, unmarked in very good dust jacket with some chips and longish tears along the folds. From the Preface: "CAN "THE RIDDLE OF THE UNIVERSE" BE SOLVED? SINCE THE DAWN OF recorded history men have tried, but "the riddle" still remains. They failed, and all because they lacked the one essential--the key to Causation. This is the master key that unlocks all mysteries, but that key was lost in the spiritual night of the past 6,000 years. In that mythopoeic age that preceded this, men knew vastly more about Causation and Creation than he does today, but knowing also that an age of darkness was coming upon the world, the wise Initiates hid…

binding is very clean- just a touch of edgewear/shelfwear. They used a two tone quarter green cloth over gray cloth and the green portion still is glossy. Internals very clean ( not even any pricing marks in pencil) though there is a paper clip indentation at the lower edge affecting the title, onwards for 20 pages. Unclipped wrapper has only some rubbing but I detect no tears, creases or chips. The paper is wonderful; it strikes me as feeling and looking like "linen" (not your business/office grade) but I am by no means an expert on paper. This US Stackpole Edition omits 8 plates which are in the UK Allen & Unwin volume. Well-preserved, excellent copy.Inv. # 63672 NOAB* bds 9/2023
