London: Sampson Low, 1916. [Literature] FIRST THUS. Octavo (24 x 18cm), pp.xiv; 600. With 21 colour halftone illustrations with captioned tissue-guards, including a frontispiece. Also with a title-page vignette. Red publisher's cloth, gilt pictorial designs and titles to upper board and spine, small onlay illustration to upper. Top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. Lightly foxed throughout, some toning and minor bubbling to endpapers. Faded ownership inscription to flyleaf. Some dulling to t.e.g. Faint black marks to upper board. Sunning to spine and portion of lower. Mild bumping to extremities. Very good. A comedic Regency plot wherein boxer Barnabas Barty comes into a fortune of £700,000 and decides to use the money as a start-up fund for his new aristocratic life (to the chagrin of his father). Later turned into a film starring Douglas Fairbanks Jr.
