About This Item

Simon & Schuster, New York, 1956. First Edition. Hardcover (1/4 Cloth 3/4 Boards). Very Good/Good. Illustrator: Marc Simont. The text is illustrated with black-and-white line drawings by Marc Simont. 1/4 cream coloured cloth covered back strip with dark red coloured titles. 3/4 blue coloured boards with metallic red and metallic blue coloured titles to the front panel. Red coloured tint to the top text edge. Illustrated dustwrapper, again by Marc Simont, with red and blue coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Black and white photograph of author to the rear panel. As the author states in the front fold over panel blurb " (this book) is just the simple story of my love affair with United States of America, starting when we were both fifty years younger in a strange city where 30-4th Street was uptown and there was no Marilyn Monroe, Liberace, no Zsa Zsa Gabor and only a rough preliminary scenario of Billy Rose, he being five years old at the time ...." Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book corners. The cream-coloured back strip has become a little darkened. Offset tanning and some foxing of the end pages. Tanning of the text block edges, with lighter tanning of the pages. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and back strip edges. Noticeable creasing to the top dustwrapper edge and a little to the lower edge. Numerous small closed tears with staining to the top right-hand corner of the front panel. Fading to the back strip with tanning of the dustwrapper. A previous owner has supported some of the tears with tape on the verso – tape still in situ. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [10], 3 - 212, [4] pages,. All Four Corners Clipped. Deckled Front Edge (rough cut). Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Marc Simont. Quantity Available: 1.
