About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1968. First Edition Later Printing . Hardcover. Very Good/Near Fine. Freeman, Margaret. The author of the beloved girls' "Hitty" books here offers a selection of 21 favorite children's stories drawn from a wide swath of American folk culture, including native American Indian tales, "Negro" animal tales (Uncle Remus), legendary lumberjack stories (Paul Bunyan), & tales from the Louisiana bijou, southern mountain stories, & New England. In 302 pages, with 70 illustrations throughout by Margaret Freeman, who also did the DJ design. First published in 1929, this is a 1968 printing. Hardcover 8vo has deep green cloth-covered boards embossed with a black archer design & lettering to front & spine. Though it is an Ex-Lib copy, with the usual stamps & markings, tape residue to endpapers, condition is VG: very clean & bright, binding strong & straight, front hinge starting, pages creamy white with very mild tanning to edges. Boards show slight rubbing to extremities, bumping to both corners & ends of spine, light surface soiling. The unclipped DJ is Near Fine, having been protected under old library mylar, which has been carefully removed & replaced with clear mylar cover. Just a tad of rubbing & old paper call number to spine are only flaws. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
