About This Item
not stated: American Society of Civil Engineers [unpublished], 1891. Original Wraps. 56p., tentative text with only one page showing corrections (in pencil, grammatical errors only), coverless signatures sewn with tough thread in good shape, the usual govt or quasi-govt publication in 9x6 inch self-wraps. Front cover (i.e., first page) bears an old ownership in pen & ink, dust-soil, handling crimps and a touch of foxing. Back cover has a spatter of ink (eighth-inch blobs) and more dust & foxing. As is, perfectly legible. Author Wilson explains that in the US .."Until about 1882.. there was no single irrigation work designed on sound engineering principles" but all were "hastily constructed" under pressure for money, especially in Colorado and California. -- From first page: "This advance copy is subject to revision. It is sent to you personally for discussion only and with the express understanding that it is not to be published or furnished for publication in advance of its regular issue in Transactions of the Society. [Signed] Francis Collingwood, Secretary.
