American Museum included debates surrounding the Constitution, as well as internal improvements, industry, agriculture, and the overall state of the nation. The Constitution in this volume is one of the first printings, and the first six Federalist Papers appear in No.s 5 and 6. It became a source for information about Federal activities as Carey printed reports from cabinet departments, proceedings of Congress, state constitutions, treaties with foreign nations, and foreign intelligence.
