The first in depth study of slave revolts, it shattered the current dogma that slaves were passive victims and showed how uprisings not only occurred but were common. He was a close friend of W.E.B. Dubois and often censored for his communist party membership. His 1931 master's thesis on Nat Turner preceded this which was originally published as his PhD dissertation in 1943. Size: Octavo (8vo).
