Light gray covers with just a hint of age tanning at top and some edge wear. Interior is faultless and tight. A history that begins with the year 1947 which was the last full year of life of the Iron Horse which marked the passing of the steam locomotive and the first step in the transition of the railroads to diesel power. Illustrated with text and black and white (a few in color), photographs on every page. It is a history the last days of steam, the advent of diesel motive power, the decline of the passenger train, and some predictions for the future. Contents in Five Chapters: The Death of the Iron Horse, The Diesel Takes Over, The Vanishing Passenger Train, The Quiet Revolution, and the Road Ahead.
