About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. Among Malay Pirates is one of G.A. Henty's most distinguished and well-known works of classical literature. Mainly revolving around a shipwreck in the Channel Islands, the perilous waters of India and Malaysia/Indonesia, the stories are well-written, structured and organized, while offering an entertaining and culturally educational pastime that anyone used to Henty's writing style will be completely captivated by from the very start.

Among Malay Pirates and Other Tales of Peril and Adventure is essentially a collection of four short stories that Henty has written around the turn of the 20th century, focusing on adventures taking place in the waters of the Indian Ocean. His nuanced depiction of the Malaysian people has been received not without a certain dose of criticism, particularly from modern readers and authors.

Nevertheless, G.A. Henty's works are quite well-received, due to his focus on depicting life at sea in an interesting and entertaining manner. The stories are also quite well-written and thought-provoking, offering a clear and detailed view of British imperialism as it was seen at the beginning of the 1900s.

The plots of the stories feature inspiring and quite fast-paced developments that has kept readers interested for more than a century. Despite this fact, the book will not feel too dated, and you'll find it to be a comfortable read in most cases, the characters and scenes it depicts being, in some places, quite endearing and likeable in their simplicity.

The dominating theme has to do, of course, with the bravery of British soldiers as they face the many unknowns of an untamed world throughout the waters of the orient. Dangerous captures, daring escapes and an overall creative take on managing plot lines has brought Henty quite a good dose of popularity as an accomplished author, his works still being recognized my critics and readers alike today.
