Lyon: Widow of Antoine de Harsy, 1615. First Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good Condition. Contemporary calf, cover neatly detached, old library label inside front cover, embossed stamp to title, old withdrawn stamp to title verso, endpapers and title a bit rumpled, scatterred minor foxing and wear, generally very good internally. (24), 336, (8)pp.
Gorton, in his biographical dictionary describes Vanini as "a writer stigmatized with atheism". Vanini published this in 1615 this work which though mystical in nature, wasn't heretical and it was licensed - his next work, the next year, was burnt and he was sentenced to have his tongue plucked out and himself burned which he was on Feburary 19, 1619.
