About This Item

Johns Hopkins Press, 1970. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. Type: Ex-Library Exlib hardback first edition; 309 pp with references/bibliography, index. Numerous figures and tables. The study of recorded instances of solar and lunar eclipses provides a means of synchronizing ancient calendars with our own. More importantly, studying deviations of the historical eclipses with the predicted occurence is a powerful tool for studying the accellerations of the Earth and Moon. "Use of ancient observations to estimate the accellerations goes back about two centuries. It is disconcerting to find, however, that much of such work ... is wrong." Full bound blue cloth boards show some light general soiling, call letters and yellow stripe to lower spine; library stamp to upper page edge. Interior is very clean, save one library stamp and a few pencilled library numbers to title and first index page. Rear free endpaper removed. No highlighting, underlining or marginalia. Binding is tight and square.
