A lovely set complete in three volumes concerning English art, in sumptuous uniform full calf Bickers & Son bindings. Three volumes in uniform full calf bindings signed Bickers and Son, containing a history of English painting and notes on other arts including architecture, sculpture, and engraving among other. Including a catalogue of English engravers and accounts of the major artists born in the country.Collected by George Vertue and digested and published from his original manuscript by Horace Walpole, with additions by James Dallaway. A new edition, revised with additional notes by Ralph N. Wornum. Featuring a preface by Horace Walpole. With a number of leaves of advertisement, no half titles as issued. Pagination is continuous.Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume, as well as seventy eighty plates and numerous wood engravings in text. Collated, complete. in uniform full calf bindings signed Bickers & Son, with five raised bands, gilt tooling to spine, titles in gilt to morocco labels to spine, marbled edges and endpapers. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, minor rubbing to joints and boards. Internally, firmly bound. Few light spots affecting the first and last few leaves and leaves of plates, otherwise pages generally bright and clean. Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume, as well as seventy eighty plates and numerous wood engravings in text. Collated, complete. Very Good Indeed
