The minnow Barbus Trevelyani Gunter is known today only from restricted habitats in the Buffalo and Tyume Rivers , Eastern Cape. The ecology of this species has been studied and it is concluded that it is in danger of extinction due to deterioration of habitat and the presence of introduced exotic species.
