John Bland and Edmund Backhouse were already famous for their book 'China Under the Empress Dowager' when they wrote their history of the rulers of China - 'Annals and Memoirs of the Court of Peking.' This chronicle begins at the fall of the Mongol Empire, covering the Ming & Manchu dynasties, Li Tzu-Ch'eng's rebellion, the fall of Peking, the Mings at Nanking, Tao Kukang and the impact of the West, memoirs of the Boxer Year in 1900, and information on Buddha, laws and the forbidden city.
This 1914 edition includes 25 full-page black and white photogravure engravings.
