Thomas Johnson as training, teaching, civilizing dormitory school for Eastern Indians that were either peacefully of forcefully removed from their natural grounds. For years it was an outpost of civilization before entering the Kansas plains; Santa Fe and Oregon Trails, first governor office of Kansas Territory, legislative hall, antislavery and proslavery meetings, and for housing Civil War troops.
