About This Item
[Chicago: National Baptist Convention, 1960]. First Edition. Staple-bound pamphlet. Printed card wrappers; 37,[3]pp; portrait frontispiece. A fresh, clean copy, Near Fine.
Jackson served as President of the NBC for 29 years (1954-1983), and over time became controversial for his tepid support of Martin Luther King and others at the vanguard of the American civil rights movement. His conservative approach to civil rights issues eventually led to a violent rift with King's supporters, who resigned from the NBC to form their own denomination, the Progressive National Baptist Convention, in 1961.
