London: Printed for J. Dodsley, 1777. First Edition. Full calf. Fair. Octavo. [1], iv, 192 pages, pages 113-270 "Chronicle", pages 231-248 "Appendix to Chronicle"; pages 249-251 "The Chronicle" ; pages 252-270 "State Papers" , [1] page titled "Characters", [1] page blank, pages 1-64 "Characters", pages 65-109 "Natural History", pages 110-133 "Projects", pages 134-165 "Antiquities", pages 166-201 "Miscellaneous Essays", pages 202-235 "Poetry", pages 236-259 "Account of Books", [9] pages "Contents", [1]. Full calf binding with black and red leather title labels on the spine. The front board is detached. Light creases, cracks to the spine. Boards are lightly edge worn. Spine is chipped at the head and base. Corner are worn. Text is mostly clean and in very good condition with some foxing to the title page and occasional light toning to the text. The cords in the gutter of the text are slightly visible mostly towards the back. The text block is still uniform. The rear end sheets are a little loose. Contents include an early printing of the America's Declaration of Independence and Articles of Confederation from pages 260-270. The editor states on page 260 - "The following Papers seem to exhibit the Extremes of Zeal and Indifference, with which the Powers of Europe regard the present Quarrel between Great Britain, and her North-American Colonies; and therefore, cannot but be entertaining to the reader." Also included is a book review of Adam Smith's Wealth of the Nations on page 241 (Account of Books) towards the back of the volume. A fair copy only.
