Chides the leaders of the French Revolution for following Rousseau, thereby reversing the ideals of taste and grace, which are worthy of preservation, and combining them with aristocracy, the target of the French Revolution.

With folding map and 11 full page plates. The binding has gilt-lined raised bands, decorative gilt compartments and title label to spine, with titles and gilt border to front board. It is clean, but with wear to corners (with leather loss), and the top and bottom of the spine. There is splitting at the front spine joint. The endpapers are marbled, with the armorial bookplate of F Monteith Ogilvie to the front pastedown, and the decorative bookplate of John Davie Manson Robertson, a noted Orcadian book collection to the fep.
