1890 Arabian Nights Entertainments Scott Illustrated Ali Baba Aladdin 4v SET

During the Golden Age of Islam in South and West Asia, a collection of tales and stories was gathered and called "One Thousand and One Arabian Nights". It is often known in English as the Arabian Nights and introduces some of the most well-known characters of literature including Aladdin, Ali Baba, and Sinbad the Sailor.

This charming four-volume printing of 'Arabian Nights' is was published in 1891 in Boston with English text from Jonathan Scott and an introduction by William Griffis. This edition also includes black and white illustrations throughout.

1689 English Reformation Burnet Henry VIII Elizabeth I Portraits RARE Latin ed

As a response to Nicolas Sanders attack on the English Reformation, Gilbert Burnet published a rebuttal that covered the reign of Henry VIII, the second volume covers the reign of Elizabeth I. The work saw such success and popularity that his reputation was enhanced, and the English Parliament gave thanks to Burnet after the completion of Burnet.

Burnet gives evidences of the difficulties and challenges that the Church of England faced against Catholics and the government. Burnet defended his doctrines in this work and "confirmed them in another sermon, in which he also made some reflections on Bishops" that were impactful in English reforms. (Burnet, HRCE, Book III, 307).

This Latin edition was published in 1689 and is considerably rarer than the earlier English printings. It also features 16 impressive copper engraved portraits.

Florus was a Roman historian who lived during the 2nd-century AD. His history of Rome was collected by Livy, and mainly focuses on the foundation of Rome though the end of the B.C. era. The work is considered inaccurate, especially compared to Livy's much more popular and famous History of Rome.

This 1657 Elzevier edition of Florus was edited by the 17th-century French classist Claudius Salmasius. First appearing in 1638, this book not only includes Florus but also an edition of Lucius Ampelius's 'Liber Memorialis'. This work is an ancient index of 1st-century Roman history focusing on cosmography, mythology, and geography during the Republican period of Rome. Curiously, this is only the second known edition of Ampelius.
