About This Item

London: Andre Deutsch, 1978. 191pp. Red cloth boards with gilt titles and decoration to front and gilt titles to spine. Top edge coloured red. Dust jacket with coloured illustration by Ardizzone. The fourteen tales in this selection include favourites such as 'The Snow Queen', 'The Ugly Duckling', 'The Emperor's New Clothes' and 'The Little Mermaid'. Edward Ardizzone had always wanted to illustrate a collection of his favourite Hans Andersen stories. His black & white drawings show how well he understands the moods of his characters, his colour work is superb, beautiful and haunting. Sixteen full page colour illustrations, colour illustration to dust jacket and black & white illustrations in the text by Edward Ardizzone. Very good. Slight bowing to boards. Some light soiling to text block fore edge. Dust jacket very good. Price clipped. Very slight soiling and light edge wear. Jacket in a protective sleeve.
