Offered is "THE ARMY'S WAR AGAINST THE GUATEMALAN CAMPESINOS" published in August 1988 by The Guatemalan Church in Exile [IGE] out of Managua, Nicaragua. Most likely photocopied by Guatemalan rights activists in the United States, the single-stapled publication measures 8-1/2" by 11" and contains 20 pages photocopied on one side, with several photocopied photographs. The front cover photograph of a young Guatemalan man holding an artillery shell is described "A refugee community escaped death when a 105mm artillery shell fired by the army failed to explode." The Contents are: small map of Guatemala (pinpointing several things, including the Ixcan Grande Cooperatives, military bases and garrisons, and airstrips); Introduction (which begins: "In spite of the constant affirmations by the Christian Democrat government of Vinicio Cerezo that Guatemala is complying faithfully with the commitments of ESQUIPULAS II, acting for peace and national reconciliation, the testimonies and accounts presented in this document, which come directly from the refugee campesino population in the jungles and mountains of Ixcan - pronounced ish-CON - refute categorically the official propaganda"); Chronology (a list of Guatemalan army attacks against the campesino refugee population in Ixcan from March 18, 1988 through June 29, 1988); lengthy Letters From the People; Photocopied fragments of the original letters from the people; rear page photograph of Guatemalan children with the headline "WHILE THE GOVERNMENT OF VINICIO CEREZO SAYS THAT THERE IS PEACE IN GUATEMALA, MORE ARTILLERY BARRAGES ARE FIRED ON US."
