About This Item

a Lyon: de l'Imprimerie du Roi, 1786. [2], 38 pp. 1 vols. 8vo. Self wrappers. Upper wrapper dampstained and spotted, slightly stained within. [2], 38 pp. 1 vols. 8vo. The Verdicts Announced -- a Rare Printing. Official announcement of the verdicts rendered by the Assembly on all of the accused, in the complicated swindle known as the "diamond Necklace Affair, including Cardinal Rohan (acquitted), Count Cagliostro (acquitted), Marc-Antoine Nicholas de la Motte and his wife Jeanne (both convicted of fraud, sentenced to public flogging (nude!) and branding. Although the Queen was exonerated of having any part in the affair, the sensational revelations of the life style at the Court harmed her and the Court irreparably, fanning the flames which soon led to the Revolution.

Several concurrent printings have been noted; OCLC finds this rare Lyon printing only in microform; not found not in the BN online catalogue or RLIN. OCLC 47280679 (microform only); not in RLIN; not in Bibliothèque Nationale
